Hey all my MAT buddies!! I already had a blog open for all my hormonal children, so I thought it would be okay to post this...I hope so anyway. Just in case you didn't know. I teach all ninth grade English, general, and two Pre AP classes. I don't have any classes smaller than 25 students except my 4A class, which has several IEPs. So far, I love my job, albeit stressful at times. I have a three year old son, a husband, and four cats! I graduated from UAM but not before attending two other colleges. I graduated with a Creative Writing degree, Vocal minor. I decided to teach after substituting for a year, but believe it or not, substitutes don't have near the stress teachers do. I didn't realize that until I became one! lol.
I did a lot of substitute teaching while living in South Dakota and realized it could be stressful: most of it was in the resource classes. As you already know, I taught a semester of Basic English at Henderson State which was even more stressful. I thought I had a pretty good idea of what teaching was like until I stepped foot in my 10th grade classes. I really was never in that fantasy phase that Harry Wong talks about but even with the warnings of what could happen and what it is really like I never believed that things could be as bad as they have been. Do ever feel like you are suppose to be a miracle worker? At 53, I haven't been thus far in life and I do not anticipate that changing. However, I will take every moment that a student or students have an epiphany and admit what I am trying to do in the classroom is for their benefit.
You know where to find me. Use that back door anytime if and when you need to vent! I am a good listener. Things will get better.
